A Study on Behavioral Factors for the Safety-drive of the Owner-Drivers in Workers at Correction Agency

Abstract
This study is to evaluate a relationship between behavioral factors of the safety of owner- drivers in workers at Correction Agency and an occurrence of the traffic accidents, provide basic information that describes various factors to reduce the traffic accidents. The major tool of this study was the Korean Self-Analysis Driver Questionnaire. This questionnaire contains categories which measure drivers opinions and attitudes on his or her own driving: driving courtesy, emotion control, observance of traffic law, speed, vehicle condition, drug taking, high-risk behavior, and human factor. To analyze the data, the total 213 drivers from the workers at Correction Agency were investigated from April to November, 2006. The analysis of the data was based on the questionnaire used a descriptive statistic with SPSS program. The results were the followings : 1) The Age Groups: Between 35 and 40 had the highest number of drivers, 108 drivers, which contains 50.7% of the total in this group. More than 30 yr old had the lowest numbers, 14 drivers, and 6.6% of the total. 2) The Driving Experiences: More than 9 yr of the driving experience period was the highest number of drivers, 85 drivers, which contains 39.9% of the total analyzed drivers. Less than 2 yr of the driving experience period was the lowest number of drivers, 27 drivers, which contains 12.7% of the total. 3) The Driving Courtesy, the Observance of Traffic Law and the Emotional Control on years Group: The desirable level of ¡®red signal observance¡¯ showed the highest in category, 70.0% was included in less than 30 yr old group of total. On the other hand, the desirable level of driving courtesy was the highest in category, 55.7% in between 35 and 40 yr old group of the total (p=0.039). 4) The Driving Courtesy, the Observance of Traffic Law and the Emotional Control on years Group: The desirable level of ¡®overspeed drive¡¯ showed the highest in category, 57.1% was included in more than 40 yr old group of total. On the other hand, the desirable level of ¡®overspeed drive¡¯ was the highest in category, 60.0% in less than 30 yr old group of the total (p=0.009). 5) The Driving Courtesy, the Observance of Traffic Law and the Emotional Control on years Group: The desirable level of ¡®good driving skills¡¯ showed the highest in category, 44.3% was included in between 30 and 35 yr old group of total. On the other hand, the desirable level of ¡®good driving skills¡¯ was the highest in category, 64.3% in more than 40 yr old group of the total (p=0.015). 6) The Condition of a Car: The desirable level of ¡®worn tire driving¡¯ was the highest for , 98.8 % in driving career group of more than 9 yr of the total, the lowest for was 88.9% in driving career group of less than 2 yr of the total (p=0.009).
